My grandson is only 3 but already he requests this book at bedtime. It's very well written and will still be applicable as he gets much older.

Several posted about being bothered that a child would ask for God to continue to love them? The last page is written from the child's stand point, what better way/opportunity to open up the discussion and let your child know of God's unfailing love. So many children would ask in that way until they are guided in the right direction....love that this book provides the chance! Also, what better way to show the child that we as humans WILL have times where we don't "feel" love, or may even question God. I applaud the honest delivery. The simple idea of knowing it is okay to have questions shows the child that that we are just human. A great conversation opener to discuss "Faith" as well!
"Away in a Manger" just came to mind...."Be Near me Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to Stay" Do we not let our children sing it, because they don't have to ask that? He IS always near, but the childlike wonderment is part of the experience.....THESE are the opportunities we parents should EMBRACE!!!

Great Children's Book with a Great Message!
Misty and I have read this little book over and over to Samuel and even to Kyle. It is a great resource to teach them from the youngest age to have a relationship with God. A relationship where they talk to and listen to their Creator.
The illustrations in the book are great and the overall value is outstanding, a great addition to any collection for young minds.

This Little Prayer of Mine is a beautiful prayer book that every kid--and parent--should read and pray. It gets down into the heart, disclosing what's really there and how we all really feel. I was surprised how much I as an 18 year old related to this book. I pray the same prayers--though not in such beautiful verse--as this prayer.
It targets just about everything: the biblical command to be joyful: "help me to be happy," the search for the God's will: "show me what the right path is and help me follow you," and even loneliness and depression: "please let me know you're here with me and everything's alright," and then our end path, what really matters: "but most of all I'm grateful for your love that never ends." I had shivers running down my spine while I read this prayer.
Not only is it a wonderful prayer in itself, but the rhythm of the verse is enchanting and perfectly smooth. The illustrations are beautiful, and instantly reminded me of Max Lucado's children's book You Are Special (those of you who don't know, another highly recommended book and author).
This Little Prayer of Mine may be short, but it's a prayer that needs to be read by the big and the small.
Recommendation: Ages 4+

A new children's bedtime book for believers of Jesus Christ has just been released by Random House publishing company. Written by Anthony DeStefano and illustrated by Mark Elliot, children can be read their bedtime prayer before closing their eyes for sleep.
Written in rhyme, DeStefano provides an indirect guide for children's prayers and each idea is beautifully illustrated in the style of Audrey Wood's children's books, such as The Napping House.
The first set of rhyme incorporates the child asking God if He will hear his prayer, since he is "just a child". This could be disturbing to some, given the fact that we are to 'become like little children' to enter the kingdom of God and Jesus scolded the disciples for thinking they needed to shoo the children away when they approached Him. It seemed strange to begin the book/prayer as if children (and I'm sure some may) aren't sure if God is listening to them.
This Little Prayer of Mine touches on subjects of sadness, loneliness, and other feelings and emotions with which children struggle and can pray about. It guides a child to pray for the present and future. The rhyming works for the most part (which all children love it a book), except for the very last page, where I felt it lost its rhythm and was a little off at the very end, leaving me, as the reader unfulfilled in terms of an all around, well-written children's book. However, the child being read to most likely won't notice, especially if the reader is prepared to make the glitch (I felt) in the rhyme work.
As in the beginning I had an issue with children questioning whether God listens to their prayers, I had another issue with the end in somewhat the same manner when it reads, "Please love me God, forevermore..." This didn't sit right with me in terms of God's love isn't conditional - there isn't a point where he quits loving us for any reason and I felt it leaves doubt to question His unfailing love. I felt it could have been worded better.
